It was shortly after midnight that the 18 knockout supermodels of Sports Illustrated’s brand new 2012 Swimsuit Issue touched down in Las Vegas after their launch party in Manhattan on Tuesday night.

Cover girl sensation Kate Upton -- we’ve written a few words about her and posted a few photographs and videos of her! -- wowed Tuesday night’s “The Late Show With David Letterman” audience in a sex-goddess Brigitte Bardot, figure-hugging red dress that accentuated all of her buxom beauty. Kate, who said that she’d always dreamed of being on the S.I. cover, wants to eventually become a Hollywood actress. She was the first to wake up in Las Vegas today.

Here’s the first video of her location shoot on the northern coast of Australia at the Great Barrier Reef.

Kate led her curvy cohorts to the Entertainment Capital of the World on the late-night flight: Cintia Dicker, Jessica Gomes, Izabel Goulart, Julie Henderson, Ariel Meredith, Alyssa Miller, Genevieve Morton, Bar Refaeli, Crystal Renn, 2011 S.I. cover girl Irina Shayk, Chrissy Teigen (John Legend’s fiance), Anne V and newcomer swimsuit rookies Adaora, Nina Agdal, Kirby Griffin, Jessica Perez and Michelle Vawer. They’re here celebrating with Time Sports Group President Mark Ford and S.I. Swimsuit Issue Editor M.J. Day.

We’ll have reports, photographs and videos from today’s welcome ceremony at Mastro’s Ocean Club in Crystals at CityCenter, where the models will show off their cooking skills with chef Wayne Shumaker, plus a handprint cement ceremony mid-afternoon at Planet Hollywood. Sports Illustrated also released today its first free iPhone app for this year’s magazine and models.

For the first red-carpet event tonight of swimsuit launch week in Las Vegas, the entranceway and interior of Haze in Aria will be transformed to bring to life the exotic worldwide locations that served as location settings for the model shoots.

I’ve learned that “Extra” host and actor Mario Lopez will MC the main-stage reveal and parade of the 18 glamour girls at Pure in Caesars Palace on Thursday night. Additionally, expect a surprise guest performer for the lovely ladies.
